Kansas Troubles

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Kansas Troubles quilt block is an old favourite of quilters. With careful attention to the sewing of your quarter inch seam allowances, this four patch block will go together quickly. It is comprised solely of a few squares and the rest of the patches are half square triangles, in two different sizes.

The quilt layout shown on the left uses a standard side by side block setting and sashing strips add some extra colour to the quilt. The quilt layout on the right uses the blocks set on point, with large corner triangles added to each block. Note also, that in this example quilt, I have flipped half of the blocks as mirror images during the construction stage to achieve the desired end result.
