BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The directional nature of the Underground Railroad quilt block lends itself to all sorts of interesting opportunities for the perfect quilt layout. By using simple rotations by 90 degrees of single blocks or blocks in groupings of 4 blocks, there is no limit to the number of quilt layouts that can be designed using this quilt block.

The quilt layout shown on the left takes advantage of four block groupings, which then leads the eye across the quilt in diagonal lines. The quilt on the right uses the blocks set on point and by rotating single blocks here and there, a whole new quilt design is achieved.
