BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The two quilt layouts shown below feature the Thunder and Lightning quilt block - a nine patch design featuring lots of half square triangle patches.

The quilt layout illustrated on the left sets the blocks on point and separates them with sashing strips. The "cornerstones" in the sashing gives the impression of little stars in the sky as the lightning flashes.

The quilt layout featured on the right also uses a diagonal setting of the blocks but in a different way. Each block is enlarged by including colourful, corner triangles to add extra splashes of colour in this design element.
