BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The two quilt layouts shown below using the nine patch Swamp Patch quilt block both set the blocks on point, with very different results.

The quilt layout on the left enlarges each block with corner triangles in different fabrics to create a larger block and make a sort of "frame" along the outer edges of the quilt.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses a light fabric for the extra blank blocks and outer setting triangles to create an illustion of a meandering design throughout the quilt.
