Nine Patch | Uneven Nine Patch |
The Uneven Nine Patch style of quilt block is so named because not all of the nine individual patches are the same size as is the case in a regular nine patch quilt block. This style of quilt block is often used in 10" quilt block to make the math easier, but you will find this construction method in many other quilt blocks as well.
Sunny Day
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Sunny Day quilt block is a four patch (or an eight patch) design , but, in this case, is constructed as an uneven nine patch, simply for ease in the sewing process. There are lots of little four patch units (forming "checkerboards") within the overall design, giving you lots of opportunity to practice up on those patches.
Although there are lots of seams in this block, the patches are limited to squares and half square triangles to form this design. The directional nature of the block leads to all sorts of interesting possibilites for your resultant quilt. Two examples are shown on the following page.
