BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

I love to work with quilt layouts featuring blocks with an obvious directional nature to them. This opens up all sorts of interesting possibilities for designs -- just by simple 90 degree rotations of the blocks, or groupings of blocks.

The quilt layout featured below on the left sets the blocks side by side, rotating blocks here and there to create this geometric design for the quilt.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses an on point block setting and also rotates many of the blocks to create a totally different design. The setting triangles along the edges give the opportunity to add an extra element of colour to the quilt.

It's hard to even remember that the quilt block used was a bridal bouquet once your make all these rotations of the blocks in the quilt. Enjoy your own design process!
