Both of these sample quilt layouts shown below use an on point, or diagonal setting of the blocks.

The quilt layout featured on the left adds lots of blank blocks in the background colour to make the stars appear to float in the night sky.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses a similar approach of setting blank blocks as well. The big difference is that many of these extra blocks feature strong colour choices drawn from the pieced block to add an extra splash of colour to the resultant quilt.
