Nine Patch Uneven Nine Patch
The Uneven Nine Patch style of quilt block is so named because not all of the nine individual patches are the same size as is the case in a regular nine patch quilt block. This style of quilt block is often used in 10" quilt block to make the math easier, but you will find this construction method in many other quilt blocks as well.

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Star Twist quilt block is an eight patch design, but it is broken down into manageable "chunks" for simplification of the sewing process as an uneven nine patch.

The block is comprised of common patches -- half square triangles, and what appear to be half square triangle patches on the end of the rectangular "blades". These patches are actually sewn in the sew and flip method, which uses only squares rather than cut triangles -- easy, peasy.

You will also make a few quarter square triangle patches and some flying geese to complete this stunning, "star in a night sky" block -- (at least with the colours that I used).
