BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Spool and Bobbin quilt block, a four patch design, is easy to sew and features lots of variety in the design process.

The quilt layout featured on the left makes use of the directional nature of the blocks and with simple 90 degree rotations and utilizing careful placement of the blocks, creates a geometric "x and o" design. (You will have to look closely.)

The quilt layout illustrated on the right adds large corner triangle patches to each block, thereby enlarging each one, and uses a colour blocking technique to create a strong visual effect in the bigger blank areas -- a perfect spot for a spectacular quilting design.
