BLOCKS by SIZE | 9" Quilt Blocks |
There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.
Split Ohio Star
Free Quilt Block Pattern
Just as the names suggests, this Split Ohio Star quilt block is based on the very popular Ohio Star block.
This quilt block is divided diagonally into two halves -- a dark and a light side. This allows for all sorts of interesting design options for your quilt, similar to the technique of choosing a layout for a Log Cabin quilt.
While the Ohio Star block uses only squares and quarter square triangles, this version of the design introduces some half square triangle patches as well. This is what provides to opportunity to divide the block diagonally into halves.
