A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.
Solomon's Star
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Solomon's Star quilt block is based on an old favourite of quilters -- the Sawtooth Star. By replacing the blank centre of the Sawtooth Star block with a pieced four patch, which creates a pinwheel, you get a totally different spin on the block. (Did you see what I did there?) :-) You will be using both half square triangles and quarter square triangles to create this striking block design.
The centre of the block is made as its own unit and then is added into the whole block. The full block is then constructed as an uneven nine patch.
To go with the star theme of the block, I have chosen colours that remind me of a bright star in the night sky.
