BLOCKS by SIZE 8" Quilt Blocks

Eight inch quilt blocks are commonly used in quilts that are made up of one block only and the parts are easily divisible by four. Also, by setting the blocks in different layouts, you can create many different new designs -- sometimes with just a simple rotation of the block. This is not to say that larger or smaller versions of the same quilt block cannot be used in your quilt. Once again, you are the designer.

The Six Windows of Sunshine quilt block was new to me. I liked it for its simple shapes and it made me think of a blazing sun coming through a window pane. For that reason, I chose these colours, which gave me a "southwestern" feel to the block.

Squares, half square triangles and a few flying geese patches are the units used to make this striking four patch quilt block. Oh, and the centre of the block features the square in a square patch. All in all, this block is a great learning tool in your quiltmaking journey.
