BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

It's difficult to recognize that this same Sickle quilt block creates these two very different quilt layouts shown below.

The quilt layout illustrated on the left sets the blocks on point which creates a sort of lengthwise "stripe" of the colour used in the large half square triangles. The sashing strips with cornerstones adds an extra design element to this simple quilt design.

The quilt layout featured on the right uses a side by side setting of the blocks in each grouping of four blocks. The 90 degree rotation of some of the blocks in the set of four creates a secondary design of diamonds and squares to give a totally different look.
