BLOCKS by SIZE 5" Quilt Blocks

For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The two sample quilt layouts shown below both use a diagonal setting of each block.

The quilt layout featured on the left sets the blocks on point and separates them with sashing strips. Some blank blocks are used as added colour and as a spot to showcase your quilting design.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right also uses a diagonal setting of the blocks and alternates the rows with blank blocks in different colours to add extra sparkle to the quilt.
