Royalty Block

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Royalty Block quilt block is for a quilter who wants to move on to a little more challenging use of the half square triangles. This block uses the cut pieces individually rather than making a square patch comprised of two right angled triangles. These cut pieces are also used in making the centre patch -- which is called a square in a square.

Technically, this block is a four patch design as it is designed on a 4 x 4 grid. However, it is sewn together as an uneven nine patch -- so named as it is constructed in three rows, but the rows are not the same height.

I deviated from the traditional "colours of royalty", (purple or blue) and also from the usual yellows and oranges for the stars that result in this block. Have fun playing around with your own colour scheme to put a personal stamp on your blocks.
