BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Rolling Pin quilt block is a nine patch design which features lots of practice sewing the square in a square patch. In my view, this is a much underused patch and it is a wonderful addition to this block.

The quilt layout shown below on the left features the blocks set side by side. This results in a secondary pattern emerging where the blocks meet each other. It is often quite the pleasant surprise when this happens as is the case here.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses an on point block setting, separating the blocks with sashing strips. The addition of colourful, blank blocks increases the quilt size as well as giving an extra splash of colour to the final product.
