BLOCKS by SIZE 12" Quilt Blocks

A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Road to Mississippi quilt block is one of many "road" quilt blocks. Links to many of these are shown below.

Both of the quilt layouts illustrated set the blocks on point with very different outcomes. On the left, I think this looks like a "plaid" style of quilt, with sashing strips as an extra element to enhance this quilt design.

The quilt layout pictured on the right adds corner triangles to each block to produce a larger block. By changing up the fabric selections for these new, large triangles on the block corners, the resultant quilt has an overall "colour blocking" effect. This is an easy method to incorporate to increase the size of this (or any) quilt as well as add a striking design element.
