BLOCKS by SIZE 5" Quilt Blocks

For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.

Free Quilt Block Pattern

For all those who are regular visitors to this website, you are aware that I just love plaids. So, naturally, this quilt block called Plaid just seemed to call my name.

This quilt block could not be easier to make. It is a five patch design, made entirely with squares -- no triangle points to match up at all. Easy peasy. And ... to make it even easier ... for the sewing phase, I have constructed it as an uneven nine patch, simply because I find it much easier to work with "chunks", (in this case, little four patches in the corners), rather than row by row. Of course, this is just a personal preference, so feel free to sew it your way. :-)
