BLOCKS by SIZE 8" Quilt Blocks

Eight inch quilt blocks are commonly used in quilts that are made up of one block only and the parts are easily divisible by four. Also, by setting the blocks in different layouts, you can create many different new designs -- sometimes with just a simple rotation of the block. This is not to say that larger or smaller versions of the same quilt block cannot be used in your quilt. Once again, you are the designer.

Once I saw the "star" feature of this Pathways block, I just had to choose colours of a night sky.

This block is technically a four patch design, as it is created on a 4 x 4 grid. However, it is constructed as an uneven nine patch because of the size of the patches.

The block has many pieces, but none are difficult. There are squares, rectangles and the only pieced patches are flying geese units -- one of the first patches you will learn to piece as you begin your quiltmaking journey.
