|BLOCKS by SIZE||9" Quilt Blocks|
There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.
The Padre Island Star nine patch quilt block is a perfect choice for a beginner quilter. It contains only squares, rectangles and flying geese patches, and makes a stunning block.
Both of the quilt layouts shown below use an on point setting of the blocks, with very different results. The quilt on the left takes advantage of both whole and half blocks to create this design, complete with blank blocks for a spot to showcase your quilting embellishments.
The quilt layout shown on the right uses a popular setting of the blocks along with sashing strips for extra pops of colour.
