BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Ornate Star quilt block moves on from the Ohio Star, an old favourite of quilters. By additional patches in the corners, a more "ornate" design is created -- hence the name.

The quilt layout shown below on the left adds some pizzazz to the blocks by adding corner triangles to each block in a variety of fabrics, and then sets the blocks on point. This "colour blocking" makes for a very dazzling quilt.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right also uses an on point setting of the blocks, framing each block with sashing strips for a totally different look.
