Ocean Waves

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Ocean Waves quilt block is inspired by the New England coastline and dates from the mid 1800s.

The quilt block has seen many iterations, and this pattern is designed with ease in mind and sewn using common shapes as a four patch.

The half square triangles shown in this example use lots of different scraps in shades of blue and green to reflect the waves. However, it could easily be made using only two contrasting fabrics. The directional nature of the block allows for all sorts of possibilities in your final quilt design.
