The Northumberland Star quilt block offers all sorts of interesting design opportunites when you create your quilt using this "sparkling" quilt block. (Sorry, I could not resist that.)

The quilt layout illustrated below on the left sets the blocks on point as a central medallion. Lots of additional blank blocks give the opportunity to showcase a spectacular quilting design.

The quilt layout featured on the right also uses an on point block setting. However, in this case, large corner triangles are added to each individual block. Careful placement of the fabric colours for these large triangles create an additional design element in the centre of the quilt.
