BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The New Mexico quilt block features half square triangles and quarter square triangles to form a double pinwheel design.

The quilt layout illustrated below on the left sets the blocks on point and adds extra splashes of colour in the form of the blank blocks. These give the perfect spot to showcase your quilting design in the quilt.

The quilt layout featured on the right also sets the blocks on point. The blocks are enlarged by adding large corner triangles to each. With careful colour placement of these large triangles, you can achieve a sort of "colour blocking" design in the resultant quilt.
