|BLOCKS by SIZE||12" Quilt Blocks|
A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

This quilt block will likely look familiar to many quilters as it usually goes by the name Disappearing Nine Patch. However this version of the block is designed for those quilters who prefer to hand piece, rather than sew them by machine. (However, you can choose to sew by machine as well.) The Disappearing Nine Patch is designed as a quick piecing block, where you sew and then cut these sewn patches. That method is not conducive to hand piecing, and so I created this pattern and gave it my own name.
This four patch quilt block is made up of the simplest of shapes -- only squares and rectangles. The fun in creating a quilt with this easy block is to experiment by using simple rotations -- rotating some of the blocks by 90 degrees or 180 degrees. All sorts of interesting patterns emerge.
I chose to make the quilt block and sample quilts illustrated using a scrappy look for all of the large squares. For the rectangles and the small squares I kept the fabric for those separate units to one fabric each, but you may decide differently. Your creativity is what will make your quilt really special. Enjoy!
