BLOCKS by SIZE 5" Quilt Blocks

For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.

Sample Quilt Layouts

Both of the Midnight Pinwheel quilt layouts illustrated below use an on point setting of the blocks.

The quilt layout on the left features extra blank blocks and setting triangles to give additional pops of colour to the quilt. I also chose to use borders with mitred corners to continue with the colour blocking in the design.

The quilt layout on the right uses many more full blocks and half blocks and separates those with sashing strips for a more geometric design. What will your final design look like?
