|BLOCKS by SIZE||9" Quilt Blocks|
There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.
The Maple Star quilt block is a simple nine patch featuring squares, rectangles and a few flying geese patches. The interest to the block comes more from the colour placement of the fabrics than the quilt block design.
When designing the two sample quilt layouts shown below, I was pleasantly surprised at the lovely designs that emerged. The difference is whether corner setting triangles or additional half quilt blocks were used instead, for very different results. As a big fan of plaids, I was struck that the quilt layout on the right seemed to look just like a plaid. What are your thoughts?
