There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.
Magic Triangles
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Magic Triangles quilt block is a simple block where you will use only two basic patches.
The half square triangles are the first units you will learn to sew if you are new to quiltmaking. The only other patch in this four patch block is what is often referred to as a three quarter square triangle patch since it uses three triangles to fill the square. These are sewn with cut pieces of half square triangles and also quarter square triangle units. Colour placement is what makes this block take on all sorts of different looks -- my sample block creating some pinwheels with the yellow patches.
