Leavenworth Nine Patch
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Leavenworth Nine Patch quilt block uses only simple shapes -- no pieced patches -- being the square and the rectangle. However, there are lots of seams so you must be careful to sew a precise quarter inch seam allowance. That is the only thing that could be difficult for some quilters.
The block is constructed in what I like to call "chunks" since you build sections which are then sewn together in the fashion of an uneven nine patch.
The extra bonus in this block is that it is has a directional nature to it. Simple 90 degree rotations of some of the blocks then leads to all sorts of creative opportunities for a variety of resultant quilts.
