BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Kitty Corner quilt block introduces the quilter to the square in a square patch. This nine patch block is simple and easy to create and a wonderful learning experience for a beginner quilter.

The two sample quilt layouts shown below utilise a "positive" and "negative" version of the quilt block, by reversing two of the fabics in the block. The quilt layout on the left uses a side by side setting, alternating a positive and negative block. A secondary pattern emerges when you choose to do this. The quilt layout on the right sets the blocks on point, also using both versions of the block, with additional blank blocks for extra pops of colour and a spot to emphasize your quilting design.
