BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

The Key Lime Pie quilt block is an easy block to sew, featuring several common patches. This nine patch design is comprised of squares, half square triangles and some quarter square triangles. I used colours that (to me) represented the key lime in a beige "pieshell".

The half square triangles and the quarter square triangle pieces fit together to create what quilters often refer to as a three quarter square triangle patch, as it uses three triangles to fill up the square. All in all, these pieces form a double pinwheel as the central motif. "Checkerboard" units in the corners complete the block.
