BLOCKS by SIZE 12" Quilt Blocks

A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Hovering Hawks quilt block is the perfect choice to use up all of those scraps you have collected. (The block looks nice as a two colour quilt as well, as long as there is lots of contrast between the dark and light fabrics.) Half square triangles in two sizes make up almost the whole block -- there are also a few squares thrown in.

Whether you choose a side by side quilt layout or an on point setting of the blocks, interesting secondary patterns emerge depending on block placement and which blocks get rotated by 90 degrees. Directional quilt blocks offer all sorts of striking quilt layouts. Will you choose one of these shown below?
