BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

Both of the quilt layouts shown below using the Hidden Star quilt block set the blocks on the diagonal, (also known as on point).

The quilt layout featured on the left adds large corner triangles to each of the blocks. These larger blocks are then set side by side to create the resultant quilt. What makes this quilt stand out is the careful placement of colour of those large triangle pieces to add a new design element to the quilt.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses sashing strips of the same colour as the background. This gives the appearance of the blocks floating in the night sky, while the tiny "cornerstones" in this sashing appear to be smaller stars twinkling.
