BLOCKS by SIZE 5" Quilt Blocks

For those quilters wanting a little more of a challenge, five inch quilt blocks might be the answer -- smaller blocks usually means more blocks to make. Another reason for using five inch blocks is to create a secondary pattern. By using 4 blocks and rotating each of them, you get a different larger quilt block. These larger blocks can then be laid out in variety of ways to make some very interesting original designs.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The two sample quilts shown below both use standard settings of the Heart blocks, with very different results.

The quilt layout featured on the left sets the blocks on point with additional blank blocks of various colours for added splashes of colour. Rotating some of the blocks, setting them in group of four, creates a subtle secondary design.

The quilt layout illustrated on the right uses a standard side by side block setting and separates the blocks with sashing strips. Rotating some of the blocks by 90 degrees adds extra interest to the quilt.
