Nine Patch | Uneven Nine Patch |
The Uneven Nine Patch style of quilt block is so named because not all of the nine individual patches are the same size as is the case in a regular nine patch quilt block. This style of quilt block is often used in 10" quilt block to make the math easier, but you will find this construction method in many other quilt blocks as well.

The Green Mountain Star quilt block is a choice for those quilters who might like a bit more of a challenge. There are no difficult patches to construct, but just lots of pieces. I chose colours that I thought reflected a burning sun over a forest of green, for this design.
This eight patch block is constructed as an uneven nine patch as I find it simpler to work in "chunks" rather than row by row.
Practice up on three specific patches -- the half square triangle and quarter square triangle units, and, my favourite patch -- the flying geese to make this lovely star block.
