Girl's Favorite - Variation

Free Quilt Block Pattern

This quilt block is just what it seems - a variation on the original Girl's Favorite quilt block. This new version comes as a request from a lovely quilt shop in Indiana - Let's Sew, for an upcoming shop hop. There is only a slight change from the original block, but sometimes that is what gives a whole new look. Can you spot the difference?

The quilt block is an uneven nine patch and contains some familiar patches - quarter square triangles and half square triangles. However, the half square triangles are sewn a little differently, by using the "sew and flip" method for a little construction variety. This method is a favorite of quilters as it eases the burden of working with those pesky bias edges. (These pieces are visible as part of the centre square in a square patch.)

The two sample quilts illustrated use standard settings of the blocks but with very different results. There is no end to the variety of quilt layouts you can create.
