BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Four Square Variation

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Four Square Variation quilt block is a simple four patch design featuring half square triangles. This block is an ideal choice for a beginner quilter as you will get lots of practice in sewing those pieced patches in addition to using squares and rectangles.

The added interest in this block is in its directional nature. By rotating some single blocks, or groups of blocks by 90 degrees, surprising new secondary patterns can appear.
