A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.
Four Patch Scrap
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The name of this quilt block -- Four Patch Scrap says it all. It is a four patch design and created using lots of scraps -- (my favourite type of block).
This quilt block would be an easy choice for a new quilter, or as a tool for an instructor in the art of quiltmaking. It uses only two different patches -- squares and the (often underused patch) called the square in a square.
Although there are different methods to construct this square in a square patch, I have instructed you on the most commonly used one -- primarily as there is little waste.
Let this quilt block be the one that gets you started on the road to making "scrappy" quilts. Enjoy!
