BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Four Corners

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Four Corners quilt block is similar to the Ohio Star block, but the corners make the difference with just the subtle additon of an extra square. The quilt block gives you lots of practice in sewing quarter square triangle patches.

The quilt layout shown below on the left uses a side by side setting of the blocks with some sashing strips for additional colour. The quilt layout on the right uses an on point setting with additional pops of colour in the blank blocks and setting triangles.

Side note - Using the same fabric for the sashing as is used for the background gives the illusion that the quilt blocks are "floating".
