BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Fan Waves quilt block is two blocks in one. It is a nine patch as the centre of an uneven nine patch block. The block features half square triangles and flying geese units, all arranged to make a pinwheel within a star. All in all, this is a wonderful "learning" quilt block.

The two sample quilt layouts illustrated below both use an on point block setting. However, each quilt looks very different from the other. Adding the extra blank blocks and/or setting triangles gives the opportunity for more colour interest and a place to spotlight your quilting skills.
