A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

Free Quilt Block Pattern

The Down Home quilt block is a nine patch design featuring lots of half square triangles and a few flying geese patches.

The colour placement is key in making this block stand out. I took the opportunity to use an "autumn" palette of colours -- lots of oranges and greys. These colours are not usually in my comfort zone, but I was delighted by the end result.
