BLOCKS by SIZE 12" Quilt Blocks

A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

Double Star #2

Sample Quilt Layouts

As you may have guessed, the Double Star #2 is based on the Double Star quilt block. There is only a subtle difference between the two blocks (hint -- look at the centres of the blocks), and the difference is that Double Star #2 offers you extra practice on sewing a patch that is often underused (in my opinion) - the square in a square patch.

I chose to use a dark blue background for the block and quilt layouts illustrated, simply to represent the star in the night sky. When you use either sashing strips in the same colour as the background (as in the right quilt layout), or no sashing at all, the stars seem to really "pop". The quilt layout on the left also features lots of blank areas to showcase your quilting skills.

Now, why is it that I am thinking of that song Vincent - (Starry, Starry Night) - a tribute to Vincent van Gogh - by Don McLean?
