BLOCKS by SIZE 15" Quilt Blocks

Do you have a aversion to math? Well then the 15" inch quilt block is a welcome choice as the patches are designed in divisions and multiples of fives for ease. An added bonus is that by making a larger block, your quilt will go together in no time as there are less blocks to make.

The Dakota Gold quilt block is a five patch style block, so that makes the math easy. It contains only simple patches -- squares, rectangles and half square triangles -- which as you probably already know -- are the first pieced patches you learn as a beginner quiltmaker.

I generally choose to design the construction of five patch blocks as an uneven nine patch, because I feel that the sewing is easier to work in "chunks" rather than row by row. (This is a personal choice, so please feel free to sew in rows if that is your preference.)

The two sample quilts illustrated both use on point quilt block settings, but you will notice that they look very different. There are all sorts of different possibilities in the quilt layout. All it takes is a different set of eyes making the design. Enjoy!
