The two sample quilt layouts shown below featuring the Crystals quilt block are both set on the diagonal, but with different results.

The quilt layout illustrated on the left sets the blocks on point with sashing strips separating the blocks. The fabric choice of the same dominant colour in the quilt for these sashing strips, makes the blocks appear to be "floating".

The quilt layout featured on the right increases the block size by adding larger corner triangles to each block. Careful colour placement of these corner triangles gives the quilter all sorts of design opportunities for your final quilt.
