Nine Patch | Uneven Nine Patch |
The Uneven Nine Patch style of quilt block is so named because not all of the nine individual patches are the same size as is the case in a regular nine patch quilt block. This style of quilt block is often used in 10" quilt block to make the math easier, but you will find this construction method in many other quilt blocks as well.

Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Crossed Roads to Oklahoma is technically an eight patch block because it is designed on an 8 x 8 grid. However, since I prefer to sew blocks in "chunks" rather than row by row, this pattern instructs you to construct as an uneven nine patch. The end result is identical, but you have an easier time sewing the block.
There are lots of pieces in this block, but none are difficult to make and the end result is a striking design. Half square triangles, squares, rectangles and a few flying geese patches are all that is in this block. Colour placement is key to the final product.
