The half square triangle unit is probably the most commonly used patch in a quilt block -- well it is second only to the square. It is made simply with two triangles, filling up half the square each -- hence the name. Take a quick look through this website, or in any quilting magazine, and you will start to notice that this half square triangle, regardless of its size, is present in more quilts than not.

For those wanting to make larger quilt blocks, the County Fair block might be the answer. Not only is it an interesting choice, you can make some really striking quilts depending on how you set the blocks.
The main reason for making this as a large quilt block, is that it contains smaller blocks within. These smaller blocks have quite a few pieces, and therefore those pieces are smaller, and as a result, there are more seams and more bulk.
I was having so much fun playing around with the quilt designs that I have included four sample quilts instead of the usual two. I also changed up some of the colours to give you more ideas. I hope you enjoy this block as much as I did.
