BLOCKS by SIZE 9" Quilt Blocks

There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.

Corn and Beans

Sample Quilt Layouts

The Corn and Beans quilt block offers up the chance to use fabric values as opposites -- in particular the dark and the medium values of the fabrics. This lends itself to very different results when creating your personal quilt. These two sample quilts below use two different styles of setting the quilt blocks.

The left quilt layout sets the blocks side by side producing an interesting secondary pattern of diagonals in the two different colours. The right quilt layout sets the blocks on point, producing vertical and horizontal motifs. This last quilt layout allows for the additional pop of colour in the setting triangles on the edges of the quilt design.
