BLOCKS by SIZE | 9" Quilt Blocks |
There is no question that 12" quilt blocks are the most commonly used. But at times, you want to make a block that is a little smaller and uses easy math. Enter the 9 inch block -- not too big and not too small, but just fits the bill.
Churn Dash
Free Quilt Block Pattern
The Churn Dash quilt block is an easy nine patch block made with simple shapes -- rectangles and half square triangles. It's a good choice for a beginner quilter to learn how the patches go together.
What is interesting about this block, is that it is known my many other names. Just some of those names for this block (and this is not a complete list) are:
* Monkey Wrench (probably the most common alternate name)
* Fishermen's Reel
* Hole in the Barn Door
* Indian Hammer
* Quail's Nest
In any event, it makes for a fun block to construct.
