A quilter's favourite - the twelve inch quilt block. These are probably the most commonly used. The measurements divide easily and evenly for quick calculations. Whether the goal is a bed-sized quilt or a cuddle quilt in an afghan size, a 12" quilt block is your go-to choice.

Sample Quilt Layouts
The Churn Dash quilt block goes by many names, but I believe this is the most common name for this easy nine patch block. By using a dark background fabric (as is shown here) the resultant quilts give a cosy feel, and are especially nice to create for the man in your life.
The sample quilts illustrated are shown with a side by side block setting and an on point setting, and both use sashing strips to separate the blocks. I deviated from the usual colour selection of fabrics, as I chose to make the background fabric a dark value, rather than the traditional light fabric. What can you come up with?
