Cardinal

Free Quilt Block Pattern

I chose the Cardinal quilt block because it is my favourite bird -- probably because it is in my favourite colour. So pretty and easy to spot on the tree branches.

This five patch block gives you practice in two common pieced patches -- the half square triangle and also the quarter square triangle. The cut pieces of these two patches are used to create what quilters often refer to as a three-quarter square triangle since the patch is constructed using only three pieces rather than four. See if you can easily spot these patches in our lovely bird. The remainder of patches are made of simple squares and rectangles.
